Meet Laura Palmer

We were thrilled to have Laura Palmer join our team recently as a Senior Account Manager/Project Manager. A highly driven individual, Laura thrives in an environment where she has multiple responsibilities, thinking critically and solving problems efficiently. Inspired by being around a team with a ‘make it happen’ attitude, Laura shares with us more about her role and being part of the WoolfHodson team.

Tell us more about your role?

I’m part of the Account Management team and I’m responsible for coordinating the development of a wide range of projects to ensure they are delivered on time and to budget. My role works collaboratively across both clients and the WoolfHodson technology and consulting leads.

What attracted you to work at WoolfHodson?

From a personal perspective, the people, and the culture. I knew from the first meeting I wanted to be part of the team.

Professionally, after nearly 10 years working in creative marketing agencies, I felt the time was right for a career shift into a role focused on marketing performance and solving clients’ problems at a strategic level. I knew the role would not only develop my marketing knowledge and challenge me but also give me an opportunity to apply my project management skills to exciting Martech projects.

What are the motivators that drive you in solving complex marketing problems?

I am driven by being around a team with a ‘make it happen’ attitude. Behind every marketer is a great team that works together to solve any problem a client may have. Knowing you’ve played a part in delivering a solution for a happy client, drives me to want to do it over and over again.

What’s your career highlight?

It sounds cliché but I’ve had so many highlights throughout my career. I can think of a highlight (and learning) from every project I’ve worked on. My most recent highlight and one which brings me a lot of pride was leading the delivery of a campaign which won an International Business Award for Automotive Marketing Campaign of the Year. This was especially rewarding, as most of the campaign was conceptualised and delivered during the pandemic.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve worked on?

They say you can plan everything but the weather…. this was certainly true when whilst delivering a large B2B event in Istanbul, there was the heaviest snowfall the city had seen for 30 years. This would have been fine, but it fell on the day my team and I had scheduled an outside team-building activity for 500 people!

How did you overcome this challenge?

With some serious problem-solving skills. I had to really use my communication and organisation skills to very quickly put into action an alternative plan. By collaborating with my team and external suppliers, we pulled together a new itinerary which satisfied the client and still enabled the delegates to have an enjoyable team outing.

What’s your biggest career lesson?

No one knows it all. Learn from everyone around you and don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’ve also learnt that there’s no such thing as over-communication. Continuous communication means expectations, priorities, and goals are clear to everyone and limits the number of surprises.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I have two young children who keep me extremely busy and fulfilled outside of work. However, when I’m not running around after them, I enjoy going to a variety of shows and country music gigs and I’m also part of a social netball team which keeps me fit and active.
